Uli Hoeness, president of Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, has this afternoon revealed that certain members of the club’s squad pushed for now ex-manager Niko Kovac to be relieved of his duties, before his dismissal.
Former Bayern boss Kovac was sacked last Sunday night.
On the back of a disappointing run of form, culminating in a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt, the German champions announced across their social media platforms that they had decided to part ways with the Croatian tactician.

Kovac’s stint in Bavaria spanned 18 months, and saw him secure the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and DFL-SuperCup titles.
‘Wanted Kovac gone’
Bayern’s two outings on the back of their former midfielder’s dismissal, meanwhile, have since seen the Allianz powerhouse notch two wins and 6 goals, whilst conceding none.
The latest of these came yesterday afternoon, when a crunch Bundesliga meeting with Borussia Dortmund saw interim boss Hansi Flick guide his side to a comprehensive 4-0 victory.

Bayern’s players, all told, look reinvigorated on the back of Kovac’s exit, with fans and media members alike having since inevitably jumped to the conclusion that the Croatian was the reason behind the Bavarians’ inconsistency.
And, based on the latest comments of club president Uli Hoeness, it appears as though sections of the club’s squad were also firmly of such an opinion.
Speaking in an interview with ZDF Sport Studio earlier today, Hoeness confirmed that Bayern’s board came to the eventual decision to part with Kovac after ‘currents within the team’ made clear their unhappiness with their now-former coach:
‘There have certainly been currents within the team that wanted Kovac gone.’
‘That’s why the leadership reacted accordingly.’
